This project boasts one of the highest densities of fume cupboards in a teaching facility with a total of 114 fume cupboards overlaid with a diverse range of faculty disciplines. The engineered solution, the first of its kind in Australia, combines individual fume cupboard ducts to one central system. Sophisticated computational modelling, simulation and full scale prototyping were employed to prove laboratory health and safety and occupancy comfort were maintained. The project exemplifies how a collaborative design process can deliver a low energy building without compromising the functionality of a highly serviced laboratory environment.
