This extension at Sydney Airport houses the new Qantas Chairman’s Club lounge which is highly visible from the airport tarmac, and makes a strong architectural statement with its striking profile and façade. The new lounge required the construction of an additional two levels on top of the existing terminal building. Key engineering challenges included the development of a floor layout that satisfied the architectural intent while justifying the adequacy of the existing structure and foundations, as well as developing details for strengthening works that minimised impact on key airport operations.
