Maunsell was commissioned to assess existing traction switchgear against practices of international rail operators and current design standards. QR’s traction substation approach was re-assessed against the latest technical and safety standards. The requirements included compatibility across QR’s entire electrified operation, demonstration of life-cycle cost efficiency and assessment of impacts on operational systems. This was the first such assessment in QLD since rail electrification in the 1970s.
