The Melbourne Recital Centre, home to the new 1000 seat Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, and the Melbourne Theatre Company’s new 500 seat Sumner Theatre, have formed a cornerstone of the Melbourne arts precinct that is Southbank. Arup was responsible for providing acoustics, theatre planning and theatre technical systems advice.

The project involved the re-instatement of the Sydney University acoustic laboratory that was destroyed following a fire that occurred in October 2005. One of the major changes for the new facility was the enlargement of the anechoic room.

Defire developed a holistic fire safety strategy for the building including fire resistance, evacuation provisions, services and equipment and fire safety management and training. These measures were supported by quantitative risk analysis.

Aircraft Clear Water Rinse Facility -
RAAF Williamtown
Williamtown, NSW

The Aircraft Clear Water Rinse Facility reduces the maintenance burden associated with corrosion of military aircraft at RAAF Williamtown. The facility automatically senses the taxiing aircraft and provides a custom spray profile for each aircraft type. This facility accommodates B737-700, F/A 18 Hornet and BAe Hawk 127 aircraft.

Ground Improvement Trials at
Port of Brisbane

The future expansion of the port of Brisbane is underlain by reclaiming dredged mud and deep compressible clay and therefore needs extensive ground improvement (GI) treatment. A well planned set of GI trials was conducted with international operators to optimise and select suitable treatment techniques for implementation.

North Sydney Station Upgrade

AECOM was responsible for the North Sydney Station Upgrade design and coordination of engineering and architectural services which resulted in improved safety and operational features capable of meeting forecast 2021 plus a 15% increase in passenger demand. Construction was valued in excess of AUD$80 million and the project was handed over in December 2008.
