Kingscliff Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sustainable Living Centre The $45 million Kingscliff Wastewater Treatment Plant was designed and constructed to treat sewage collected from the Kingscliff sewerage catchment. Located at Chinderah, NSW, stage one of the new 25,000 equivalent person treatment plant was commissioned in February 2008. The project included the development of a community environmental education facility – the Sustainable Living Centre. The centre aims to inspire the adoption of sustainable behaviours in the community and to highlight the dynamic relationship between engineering and the environment. Flood Design for the Bruce Highway Upgrade - Corduroy Creek to Tully High School The combined Tully and Murray Rivers floodplain in north Queensland is located in one of the wettest regions in Australia with an annual average rainfall throughout the catchment in excess of 4 metres. Long stretches of the existing Bruce Highway were inundated and untrafficable yearly for many days. Detailed hydraulic investigations were carried out to achieve an overall design for the upgraded highway that vastly improves the current situation whilst minimising impacts on surrounding properties and taking account of the major flood flows that occur across the floodplain. Darwin City Waterfront Breakwater The 635 metre long Darwin City Waterfront breakwater is ranges in height from 13.5 metres to 17.0 metres. It was designed as an overtopping structure allowing extreme events to flood the capping structure. The unique capping design allowed the leeward armour to be reduced from 2.5 tonnes to 0.5 tonnes.
