Winner 2008 Project of the Year: Arup
Arup is delighted to have received the ACEA’s top prize for consecutive years. This year we were recognised for our contribution with our design partners for the Beijing Aquatic Center, better known as the Water Cube, and last year for BIM modelling work on the Sydney Opera House. The Water Cube also won the ACEA’s Gold Award for International/Export Projects.

Arup has built a global recognition for its leadership in design and for its commitment to excellence. To be honoured locally by our peers with the industry’s most significant awards, reinforcing our reputation in this way, is very special to us and something that we greatly cherish.

Arup is deeply committed to supporting the ACEA as a strategic leader within the industry, capable of truly representing the broad expertise represented within our profession. Therefore there is something especially sweet about this series of accolades.

I encourage all within the industry to also support the ACEA’s various initiatives, including the annual awards, as to be judged by one’s peers means that true innovation and excellence are recognised, irrespective of the size of the project and the firm involved.

Dr Robert Care, CEO, Arup

Certificate of Recognition: BG&E
BG&E would like to thank ACEA and judges for recognising the achievements of the Exmouth Marina Footbridge.

Designed for maximum cyclone region wind forces and spanning more than 90m across the main canal, this suspension-arch footbridge presented many engineering challenges, both during design and in construction.

Although built through traditional design and then construct contracts, BG&E worked closely with the constructor Bocol during the construction phase.

BG&E is an Australian based engineering consultancy practice, specialising in complex civil infrastructure design. Our work has won the Company a reputation for being engineers with innovative ideas, a high level of technical design skill and a keen understanding of construction related issues. We continue to strive for innovation with the confines of cost effectiveness and practicality.

The ACEA Excellence Award has provided the opportunity for acknowledgement of our input to this magnificent footbridge, which is now a landmark structure for the Town of Exmouth.

Judith Uren, Director, BG&E
